Our client’s came to us in need of separate living accommodation for one of their parents. They wanted to extend their home to provide an additional Bedroom with En-Suite, Living Room, and Utility/Kitchen. It was important to them that the extension be easily accessed to the existing dwelling, whilst still having a separate entrance for their family member to use on a regular basis.
There were a few issues raised during the planning phase and building phase. A seemingly big issue was the existing pond which needed to be filled before work started. The floor construction was specified to be beam and block floor so that the filled pond was bridged. This was subsequently changed to a timber suspended floor due to site constraints. The engineers provided the necessary calculations for this.
Before the planning application was submitted, the first set of plans were amended to suit the client’s exact needs. Once they were exactly what they wanted the planning application was submitted, and approved with no objections or issues raised.
As the roof design was relatively simple, trusses were used. This saved time and therefore cost.
The project was started in early January 2016 and completed in April 2016.
